AI SEO is the set of practices that makes your site show up both in traditional Google results and in answers generated by ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Claude. In 2026, ignoring this second layer means giving up half of qualified traffic.
The good news: well executed classic SEO already covers 70% of what AIs need. The important news: the remaining 30% is new, specific, and whoever implements first takes the space while competitors still debate if it is worth it.
The difference between SEO, GEO and AEO
SEO (Search Engine Optimization). Optimization for traditional search engines like Google and Bing. Focus on keywords, backlinks, technical performance and content structure.
GEO (Generative Engine Optimization). Optimization for generative search engines like ChatGPT, Perplexity and Gemini. Focus on structuring answers, citing sources and clarity of verifiable claims.
AEO (Answer Engine Optimization). Optimization for direct answer engines like Google featured snippets, Alexa and voice assistants. Focus on explicit questions and short factual answers.
The three overlap. Whoever does the first one well has a clear path to the other two.
How ChatGPT decides who to cite
ChatGPT and similar tools do not perform traditional search. They generate answers from what they learned in training and, in web search mode, from pages they can read and synthesize quickly.
To be cited, your content needs three things:
Clear, verifiable claims. Direct sentences with numbers and sources get cited. Vague text gets ignored.
Explicit semantic structure. Hierarchical headings, lists, tables and schema markup help AI understand and extract specific parts.
Domain authority. A technically healthy site, with backlinks from trusted sources and a consistent publishing history.
Technical checklist for AI SEO in 2026
Complete schema markup on relevant pages (Organization, Article, FAQPage, BreadcrumbList).
An llms.txt file at the root of your site, indicating to AI crawlers which content to prioritize.
Updated XML sitemap submitted to Google Search Console.
Healthy Core Web Vitals (LCP under 2.5s, CLS under 0.1).
Coherent hierarchical headings (one H1 per page, H2 organizing sections, H3 detailing).
Unique and specific meta description per page, under 160 characters.
Descriptive alt text on all important images.
Clean URLs, with the keyword, without unnecessary parameters.
What changes in content strategy
AI optimized content is not robotic content. It is well structured content, with clear claims, specific examples and explicit definitions of the terms it uses.
Each article should answer, in the introduction, a specific question someone would ask ChatGPT. Then deepen the subject with data, examples and nuances that differentiate you from the other ten generic answers AI could generate by itself.
Those who bring original reasoning, their own data and declared points of view get cited. Those who rewrite what already exists become noise.
How to measure presence in AI searches
Ask ChatGPT, Perplexity and Gemini, in different phrasings, about the best vendors in your sector in your region. See if you show up, how often and in what context.
Repeat the test monthly. The trend is more revealing than the snapshot.
AI SEO is the technical foundation of digital authority in 2026. Without it, good content remains invisible to half of your future clients. Want to understand how to apply this to your company? elosstudio.com.br

There is a mechanism behind the curtains that decides whether you show up, and show up well, on Google and AI search. Or that keeps you completely off their radar. Very few people know about it.
